Under the direction of District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, a joint team of Shyampur Police and Food Safety Department conducted a raid on Gurjar Dairy located in Kangri as part of the campaign against food adulteration. During the operation, about 50 kg of suspicious cheese and about 50 empty packets of milk powder were recovered.
During the investigation, Sarafat Ali, brother of the dairy operator, told that milk powder and phosphate were used in the manufacturing of cheese. The Food Safety Department took samples of cheese and milk and sent them to the Government Food Laboratory, Rudrapur for testing. The remaining approximately 49 kg of cheese was destroyed on the spot by digging a pit.
Inspection also revealed that the dairy operator was manufacturing milk products on retail license only, which is contrary to the rules. After irregularities were found, a notice was issued to dairy operator Imadat Ali and his brother Sarafat Ali under the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006. In this joint action, Shyampur police station in-charge inspector Nitish Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety Department (Garhwal Division) Rajendra Singh Rawat, District Food Safety Officer Mahimand Joshi, senior food safety officer Dilip Jain and many officials of the police and food safety department were present.
