Every year, countless colors of faith are seen in the Kanwar Yatra, but this time a unique Kanwar originating from village Khedi Shamli has become a topic of discussion among the devotees. This Kanwar has set a unique example not only of devotion towards Lord Shiva but also of Indian family values and respect for mother. Passersby are stopping after seeing this scene, taking pictures and videos and appreciating the dedication of the son and daughter-in-law. Subodh Kumar along with his wife Priya is taking Kanwad for Pura Mahadev. About 60 liters of Ganga water is kept on one side of Kanwar, while on the other side his mother and Priya's mother-in-law Rajkali are seated respectfully. Both son and daughter-in-law are together carrying Kanwar on their shoulders. This scene also challenges the notion that daughters-in-law distance themselves from their mother-in-law after marriage. By giving the status of mother to her mother-in-law, Priya has given the message that relationships are not strengthened by blood, but by respect, service and values.
