District Food Safety Officer Mahimanand Joshi is aware that on the basis of continuous complaints received in the district and information regarding sale of sauce bottles without labels in the markets, on July 29, 2026, a raid was conducted on the sauce manufacturing unit “Maa Bhagwati Foods” located in Matlabpur, Roorkee by the Food Safety and Drug Administration under his leadership and a team of senior food safety officers Dilip Jain and Pawan Kumar.
During the inspection, no food items were found in the unit. 351 bottles of the label's vegetable sauce were seized on the spot. During inspection, it was found that the bottles were not labeled with batch number, manufacturing date, expiry date, name and address of the manufacturer, FSSAI license number and ingredients list.
During the inspection, it was also found that the sauce was being manufactured in extremely unhygienic and unhygienic conditions. Excessive dirt was found in the machines used in making the sauce and dirt was also accumulated on the walls and floor.
02 samples including the vegetable sauce prepared on the spot were collected and sent to the laboratory, Rudrapur for testing. During inspection, necessary records like water testing report, medical certificates of employees, food grade certificate of plastic bottles used in packing of sauce etc. were also not presented.
Due to violation of labeling provisions, manufacturing of sauce in unhygienic conditions and non-submission of necessary documents, about 8 quintals of sauce manufactured and kept in stock, which is estimated to be worth about Rs 32 thousand, were destroyed on the spot and the reason for the above
irregularities was sauce and other food items. The manufacturing, storage and sale of goods has been banned till further orders. The notice was pasted on the gate of the factory. The Food Safety Department has clarified that if irregularities are found in the manufacturing, storage and distribution of food items, strict action will continue against the concerned units.
