In view of Kanwar Mela-2026, intensive action of Food Safety Department continues, inspection of 35 food establishments, 12 samples collected for testing.

During the Kanwar Yatra, with the aim of ensuring the quality of food items in the permanent and temporary food stalls, dhabas, restaurants, hotels and stores operated for Kanwariyas located on the Kanwar Mela area and Kanwar track routes, and to make food traders and devotees aware about food safety, a special campaign was conducted today on August 03, 2026 under the direction of Assistant Commissioner/Designated Officer of Food Safety and Drug Administration Mahimanand Joshi. On the basis of complaint from a dairy located in Arya Nagar, Jwalapur, two samples including loose cheese and loose milk were collected by Team No. 01 Senior Food Safety Officer Kailash Chand Tamta. Apart from this, a total of 64 samples of spices, dairy products, oil, salt, tea, sugar etc. from various dhabas, restaurants and food establishments located at Rodi Belwala parking were tested on the spot through Mobile Food Analysis Vehicle (FSW). During investigation, 07 samples were found to be sub-standard, which were confiscated from the concerned establishments and destroyed on the spot. Also, two samples of loose turmeric powder and loose red chilli powder were taken for laboratory testing from two dhabas located at Rodi Belwala. The general public and food businessmen were also made aware of food safety through the mobile food analysis laboratory. During this time, junior analyst Anurag and laboratory assistant Negi were present in the mobile food analysis laboratory. Senior Food Safety Officer Kailash Chandra Tamta instructed the food businessmen to maintain cleanliness in the establishments, compulsorily display food registration/license and rate list. Team No. 02: The team of Senior Food Safety Officer Dilip Jain and Yogendra Pandey inspected the dhabas, juice and cold drink shops operating on the Kanwar track road located at Atmalpur Bogla on the Bahadrabad Highway. During the inspection, the expiry dates of the packed products of cold drinks and juices available at various shops were checked, in which no expired food items or cold drinks were found anywhere. Apart from this, cold drink shops located in Dhanauri and Kaliyar areas were also inspected. Samples of cold drink, pan masala, noodles, rice and samosas were collected by the team for testing in the state laboratory. Also, a notice was issued to a drinking water manufacturing company for not following the rules related to labeling. Team No. 03: The team of Senior Food Safety Officer Pawan Kumar inspected the food establishments located in Roorkee and Bhagwanpur with the aim of ensuring the availability of safe beverages during the Kanwar Yatra. During the inspection, food traders were instructed to display food registration and price lists and not to sell expired food items. Additionally, three samples of milk and other beverages were collected for laboratory testing. Today, on August 03, 2026, a total of 12 samples including loose turmeric powder-01, loose red chilli powder-01, pan masala-01, cold drinks-04, rice-01, noodles-01, loose cheese-01 and milk-02 were collected and sent for laboratory testing by the above teams. Apart from this, a total of 35 food establishments were inspected in the district.
