The District Magistrate directed NHAI to activate patrolling teams and conduct drone surveys to prevent encroachment on the highways. The transport department, police, NHAI and district administration were asked to conduct joint anti-encroachment drive and effectively ban parking of heavy vehicles on main roads and shoulders.
He directed the concerned road agencies to make the roads pothole-free, treat accident-prone blackspots and make the toll-free helpline 1033 effective. Also asked to review the highway safety every fortnight in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court. The administration has appealed for cooperation from traders and vehicle operators on the highway side to remove illegal encroachments and to park heavy vehicles only at designated parking and lay-by spots.
